Master's Degree Programs

Cal Poly's College of Engineering offers a wide range of master's programs. Some provide specialized training in the established engineering disciplines, some focus on emerging new areas of engineering innovation and problem-solving, and some are interdisciplinary programs that confer dual degrees in engineering and a kindred area of study. With the exception of the interdisciplinary dual degree programs, which are two-year degrees, an MS degree generally requires one year of full-time study to complete 45 quarter units of coursework (equivalent to 30 semester units).

This page links to in-depth information about the degree programs and their principal requirements, organized under the following topics:

» Post-Baccalaureate Degree Programs

identifies the individual and joint MS programs within the college with links to their detailed curriculum displays.

» Basic Post-Baccalaureate Degree Requirements

presents basic program requirements shared by all the 45-unit MS degrees in engineering, including whether each program requires a graduate thesis or design project.

» Blended Bachelor and Master of Science Programs

describes an option available to currently enrolled engineering BS students to enroll in a blended BS+MS program, leading to both degrees with a reduction in the total required units of study.

» Blended and Joint Degree Requirements

discusses variations on degree requirements specific to the blended BS+MS programs and the dual interdisciplinary degree programs.

“I really appreciate the opportunities Cal Poly has given me.

I'm a manager of CubeSat, the program that builds and launches satellites. It was surreal the night our Polysats were launched into orbit. We sat listening by the phone with our fingers crossed and everyone erupted into cheers when the CubeSats made orbit. It was so great to realize all the hard work paid off.
