A Moment With the Dean: Mohammad Noori
Welcome! I invite you to see why the College of Engineering is ranked as one of the nation's top public, undergraduate engineering colleges. Our winning formula comes from top-notch students, dedicated faculty and cutting-edge facilities coupled with a hands-on learning philosophy and strong industry partnerships. With many opportunities to engage in "project based learning," our students are known for their ability to link theory with practice. Indeed, they win many nationwide competitions that range from Human Powered Vehicle races to the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers' national design contest. Our Society of Women Engineers, the largest student section in the nation, has been "Best in the U.S." for five years. A hallmark of the college is our distinguished faculty. At Cal Poly, students work directly with their professors on projects that range from designing small satellites to developing a supersonic wind tunnel. Our state-of-the-art facilities include more than 80 laboratories, including the 19,000-square-foot Bonderson Projects Center, which opened in 2006. More than anything, our success stems from a "learn by doing" philosophy. We work hand-in-hand with industry to ensure that graduates have the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. As a result, Cal Poly alumni serve nationwide as industry leaders whose vision is reshaping corporate America. The College of Engineering is on the move, creating new frontiers for engineering education and applied research. We'd love to have you join our team and help us redefine the future of engineering education and project-based learning! Mohammad Noori, Dean |
“We took 18 club members to the Society of Black Engineers & Scientists convention in Pittsburgh, which was very inspiring.”
It was the "Learn by Doing" mantra that first attracted me to Cal Poly. The Multicultural Engineering Program scholarship allowed me to focus on my studies. It also allowed me the time to be president of the Society of Black Engineers & Scientists. The support of companies that fund scholarships is vital and is, of course, very much appreciated. |
